Frank Zappa used to ask, "Does humor belong in music?" They are asking "Does humor belong in Tango?" I think the answer is yes. There are many ways of expressing Tango: elegant, sensual, playful, sexy, fluid, etc.
What they are doing here is very difficult and takes a very high degree of skill to do well.. and they are doing it very very well.

Mixed Tanda I love this version of Paciencia and you don't usually mix singers in the same tanda. So, I start with Carbel, then an instrumental, and then Echague. Some might frown on this, but all these songs fit well together and are great to dance to. So, they can just get over it. |

Héctor Mauré Tanda Collection, 1941 Héctor Mauré began working with d'Arienzo in 1940, after Echagüe left the orchestra in 1939. While Echagüe was great, Mauré and d'Arienzo were beautiful together and recorded over 50 great songs until their split in 1944. The sound that D'Arienzo and Mauré made together could be described as smoother and more calm, but stil with D'Arienzo's drive. |
